Sue gift progress

Well, I wussed out and moved the sock from the circulars to the dpns. I just didn't have the energy to move all those stitches around, keep the two balls of yarn from becoming irrepairably tangled, and then have to move them back when it was time to work the heel flap. I'm going to practice more on a pattern specifically written for socks on 2 circs - the Straight Laced socks from Knitty.

I made a little progress yesterday:

As I was getting into the cable pattern, I realized that it's the same one that I used for one of Owen's teeny tiny baby socks. So, I'm already an old pro! It is going to take forever to work 8" of sock cuff in this pattern w/ size 2 needles and sock yarn (I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, which I really like, BTW). I really hope she likes them!

I've also decided that I need some Addis to do socks on circulars. When I went to my LYS to buy needles for the socks, I discovered they didn't carry Addis. Being the impatient person that I am, I decided to try some Susan Bates aluminum circs. Well, it was a waste of $10 because it's a HUGE pain to move the socks between cable and needle because the join is not smooth at all. That was another factor in my decision to go with the dpns - I was spending so much time just pushing loops onto the needles!

Oh, and before I forget, candsmom asked where to get the pattern. It's from Cabin Fever, and I picked it up at my LYS. The website has a list of retailers. So far, it's a good, easy-to-follow pattern (but I haven't gotten to the tough stuff - the foot - yet).

The socks look great so far. And Lorna's Laces on top of that? What a lucky, lucky recipient! Thanks for the info about the pattern. I'm going to try and see if there's a retailer out here waaaay in the middle of the Pacific. :)
